Fried Okra Fritters
These crispy fried okra fritters are a Southern delight, perfect as an appetizer or side dish.

Main Ingredients
- 2 cups okra, sliced
- 1 cup cornmeal
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup vegetable oil, for frying
- In a mixing bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper. 
- In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg. Pour into dry ingredients and mix until just combined. 
- Fold in the sliced okra. 
- Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side. 
- Remove fritters with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels. Serve hot.
