Ingredients 

Dough

  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • ¾ cup Warm water

Filling

  • 2 cups Fresh spinach, chopped
  • 1 small Onion, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon Sumac
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • ¼ teaspoon Black pepper

Instructions 

  1. 1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add olive oil and warm water. Mix until a dough forms.
  2. 2. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth. Cover and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  3. 3. For the filling, heat olive oil in a pan. Add onions and cook until soft. Add spinach, sumac, salt, and pepper. Cook until spinach is wilted. Let it cool.
  4. 4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) if baking. Divide dough into small balls. Roll each ball into a thin circle.
  5. 5. Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each circle. Fold and seal the edges.
  6. 6. For baking, place turnovers on a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes or until golden. For frying, heat oil in a pan and fry turnovers until golden brown.
