Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add whole wheat flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Place a baking sheet in the oven to heat.
  6. Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten into a ¼-inch thick circle.
  7. Place the dough circles on the hot baking sheet and bake for 5-7 minutes until puffed and lightly browned.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool. Enjoy your homemade pita bread!
