Main Ingredients
- 3 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup warm water
- 2 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
Add whole wheat flour, salt, and olive oil to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). Place a baking sheet in the oven to heat.
Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten into a ¼-inch thick circle.
Place the dough circles on the hot baking sheet and bake for 5-7 minutes until puffed and lightly browned.
Remove from the oven and let cool. Enjoy your homemade pita bread!
